We would like to thank everyone that supported us at our cake stall on the weekend.
To all of the people that donated cakes, slices and freshly baked bread, you are truly fabulous. To all of the competitors in the Screamin Leeman Roy Bell Memorial Classic well done with braving the conditions that mother nature kicked up for you. And a special thank you to Windsurfing Western Australia who helped get the word out to all of their members about our cake stall. Thank you to Lorraine and Kate for preparing all of the sandwiches for the competitors, manning the stall and braving the high winds. You both are truly legends. We really could not have done it without you two. We would like to thank everyone that came down yesterday and helped put up the poles for the community garden. We had a nearly 70 year old lady come down and help lift 20 kilo bags of concrete. And another lady that came down and wasn't even worried about breaking her nails. And boy, I would kill for nails like that!!! Don’t forget to come down to the Back Beach from 12 today for our cake stall and to watch the competitors in the Screamin' Leeman - Roy Bell Memorial Classic. We would love to see you all down there 😊 Just some of the pictures from yesterday.

🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂 Can you spare a few hours this Friday morning to help concrete the poles in for the Snag Island Community Garden? Just in case you didn’t know, we are a registered charity with the ACNC. We are getting the holes dug via a machine, so no digging required. We need a hand with mixing the concrete as well as people helping putting in the posts and making sure they are level. We really need the help and we hope that you can help us out. This garden is for the whole community not just Leeman, but incorporating Green Head, Jurien Bay, Cervantes, Eneabba as well as other people that want to join in and lend a hand and show our community spirit that our towns are so famous for. There was a lot and by that we mean A LOT of paper work involved but with the help of community members we were able to get our paperwork completed and lodged for us applying for a Charitable Collections License.
And now we would just like to inform you all that our application was put to the Charitable Collections Advisory Committee last week for us to be able to be granted a Charity Collections Licence and we are very happy to inform you all that we have now been granted this licence. Without this licence we would not be able to ask for donations of any kind. Be it things for the garden, cash donations etc. And now we can!!! You can check out our listing here If you are concerned about another orginisation and want to make sure that they have their licence which is needed to ask for any kind of donation within Western Australia you can also check to see if they are registered here. I know it has been a while since our last update but we have some exciting news to share with you all!!
We applied to be registered as a charity with ACNC (Australian Charities and Not for Profits). In all honesty a lot of time and hard work went into being able to gain this status. And it has all finally paid off. Yesterday we got the word that we have now got ACNC registration. Now we just have to await the outcome of the Department of Commerces Charity departments meeting that was held yesterday. We have applied for a CCL. Without a valid CCL we won't legally be able to have raffles (yes even if we had a raffle license we still need to have a CCL!!!) We also won't be able to ask for donations etc And trust us we will be asking for donations after we get our CCL as we have BIG things planned. You will have to wait and see what our plans are, but trust us even the less impressionable will be truly impressed by what we have planned. We hope you stick around and support us. The Coorow shire had a meeting on the 19th of April. They were discussing whether to change the vesting of the land situated at 30 Nairn Street Leeman to include “Community Garden’ They decided against this as it would only mean that a community garden could use the land. So instead the wonderful shire decided to change the vesting to include Community Purposes. Now what an awesome outcome! So what does this mean in plain English? What this means is that if any other community organisation would like to utilise a parcel of the land they will not have to apply to the Department of Lands and then to the shire to change the vesting again, for them to be able to also use some of the land as the vesting (or in other words Zoning) has now been changed to include Community Purposes and not just “Community Garden.” They would only have to apply to the shire to lease the land! What a wonderful decision that was made by council. A lot of time saved in the long run. This was the decision from that meeting. That Department of Lands be advised that the Shire of Coorow does not support the creation of a new lot and reserve for “community garden”, but requests that the vesting order for Reserve 31365 (held by the Shire of Coorow) be changed to “Recreational Centre, Club Premises Site and Community Purposes” as this would facilitate the future development of a community garden somewhere in the reserve We are pleased to inform you all that we have now been incorporated :)
A lot of hard work was involved but it has been worth it :) Today we applied to become an incorporated association.
All of the paperwork has been lodged and we just need to wait now for the wheels to start turning and see if we are granted incorporation :) Wow what exciting times we have coming up. We have located the perfect piece of land. It is owned by the Department of Lands Western Australia, but vested in the Shire of Coorow. We have started the ball rolling by sending the department of Lands a application to be able to utilise the land and are just waiting on a response which can take some time. Here is hoping that they say "Yes" We will keep you all posted when we find out any news. We would like to introduce our committee.
