Expressions of Interest Sought
We are planning on starting to run a monthly Co-Op (Food Bank) Details can be found here on how we plan on it working.
We are asking for people to pre-register their interest. Please note that we are not asking for money during the registration process it is just a way for us to gauge interest.
We also need to make sure that we have enough food on Co-Op day.
To be eligible you will need one of the below cards, or a referral.
We would like to say a special thank you to all of the men from Green Head Men's Shed for donating a couple of park benches for our garden.
We just need to get some varnish on them so they will last in our garden longer.
We are pleased to announce that we received an email last week to inform us the we have been awarded a grant for just over $18,000 for our community garden.
We will now be able do so much more down at the garden.
Thank you to our wonderful committee who stayed up till all hours of the night to make sure that we had the grant application in on time. Thank you to everyone within the community that also supplied us with support letters.
Please look out for more information regarding busy bees around town, or please contact us.
We would like to thank everyone who attended. With First prize valued at $500 and over $1,500 worth of cash and prizes up for grabs on the night.
Thanks to our wonderful team who organised this event with less than 2 weeks’ notice, our valued sponsors as well as the support from everyone who either showed up or donated money as they couldn’t be there. Because of such wonderful support we were able to raise just over $1,100 for our community garden.
Thanks also to Teresa who volunteered her time in Fran's Kitchen- Leeman Country & Sporting Club as well as Ronnie who kept everyone hydrated at the Leeman Country-Sporting Club :)

Don't forget that we are always after new members.
We have been slowly incorporating plants into the garden.
So far we have Mango trees, chilly plants, mulberry tree and herbs.
We are still waiting on taking down the other fruit trees that we have.
Because of the wind that we get in Leeman we thought that it would be best to keep these plants at another location until we are fully set up to have them at the garden to give them a better chance of surviving.
We currently have ready to plant, banana trees, a fig tree, nectarine tree, mandarin tree, and mulberry trees. Joe from Tass1Trees in Perth has also committed to donating an assortment of more fruit trees. Thanks Joe you are the best :)
We must say that we have been so lucky with all of the support that we have been receiving. Not only from the council but from the community.
We have now been able to build more garden beds.
We are hoping to be able to have at least 10 garden beds completed by April. And with the support that we have been having we know that we can make this goal.
We are so happy with the progress that we have made so far.
With the support of the Shire of Coorow, Leeman Plumbing and Excavation, Bank West as well as other community members that do not want to be named, we now have a working bore and reticulation for our garden.
We have been busy down at the garden. With people heading on down and starting to build more raised garden beds.
We have already built some and placed these in the chicken pen as well as on the outside of the chicken and duck pens.
All of the materials used so far have been donated second hand steel as wood.
We have quite a lot of steel to make more garden beds but we are in urgent need of some wood. If you have some wood that you are willing to donate then please let us know by contacting Kate on 0427 282 625.
We hope that everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and New year celebrations.
Now back into creating something wonderful and much needed for not only our community but adjoining communities.
So in the last few days we have had a hoard of people heading on down to the garden to lend a hand.
The support has been amazing and we really could not have got this far without the community support and best of all the spirit of the people from this town.
We have gratefully accepted a donation from Kevin from Green Head who has kindly donated all of the shade-cloth for our shade-house. This has now been erected as well as a sprinkler system installed. All ready for our new plants.
A duck pen was also erected using mainly 2nd hand supplies.
On behalf of the committee from the Snag Island Community Garden we would like to wish everyone a safe Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If we can be of assistance to anyone over this festive time then please contact Kate on 0427 282 625

Yesterday we saw great progress happening down at the garden.
Members and volunteers turned up to help erect a shade-house as well as a Gazebo/BBQ area.
If you have any shade-cloth that you can donate then please let us know so that we can cover our shade-house to make it complete.
We normally don's take pictures of the people helping as they don't want their pictures posted onto social media for privacy reasons.
Don't forget to buy some raffle tickets in our Thermomix raffle which is being drawn tonight.
Good luck everyone in the draw.

A little progress down at the community garden today. We now have 9 chickens and they seem to be loving their new home :)
Thanks to Jason (aka Binny) for all of your help today. Total legend mate :)
Lorraine for catching the chickens and transporting them. We couldn't have done it without you.
Dave for painting the sign as well as creating a driveway and making sure that the chicken pen was ready. (might be a good idea next time to wear some sun cream!)
A special shout out to Doug and his awesome crew from DC Tree Services that relocated the chicken pen to the garden as well as dropping off some tin so that we can start making our garden beds. A job well done and very much appreciated.
The last of the fencing was put up this morning. Thanks to all of the people from Meedac as well as other people that came down and helped out!! We really could not have done it without the help from the community as a whole <3
Thanks also to Jason (aka Binny) and Dave for starting to build the chicken run.
Our very first tree will be getting planted in the middle of the chicken run. But don't worry it will be protected from the cheecky girls from destroying it!!! I personally am not sure on when this will be getting done, but if you would like to come down and be a part of this major milestone please either comment below or send us a pm. When I find out what time it is happening I can then get back to you!!
Things might have been slow in the beginiing but now that the fencing is up we have big things planned!!
What an awesome day it has been today. Well as you all know the fencing poles were erected last Friday. Today the fencing wire started going up. Hopefully it should all be finished by tomorrow!!! If anyone wants to come on down tomorrow and lend a hand that would be fabulous. The more people that can help out the quicker we can get the rest of the fencing up. This community garden if for EVERYONE to enjoy. Become a member today 😊

To all of the people that donated cakes, slices and freshly baked bread, you are truly fabulous.
To all of the competitors in the Screamin Leeman Roy Bell Memorial Classic well done with braving the conditions that mother nature kicked up for you.
And a special thank you to Windsurfing Western Australia who helped get the word out to all of their members about our cake stall.
Thank you to Lorraine and Kate for preparing all of the sandwiches for the competitors, manning the stall and braving the high winds. You both are truly legends. We really could not have done it without you two.
We would like to thank everyone that came down yesterday and helped put up the poles for the community garden. We had a nearly 70 year old lady come down and help lift 20 kilo bags of concrete. And another lady that came down and wasn't even worried about breaking her nails. And boy, I would kill for nails like that!!! Don’t forget to come down to the Back Beach from 12 today for our cake stall and to watch the competitors in the Screamin' Leeman - Roy Bell Memorial Classic. We would love to see you all down there 😊 Just some of the pictures from yesterday.
🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂Don't forget abour our Cake stall tomorrow from 12 noon at the Back beach in Leeman, coinciding with the Screamin' Leeman - Roy Bell Memorial Classic. Head on down and help us raise some much needed funds for this awesome communtiy project.
Can you spare a few hours this Friday morning to help concrete the poles in for the Snag Island Community Garden? Just in case you didn’t know, we are a registered charity with the ACNC.
We are getting the holes dug via a machine, so no digging required. We need a hand with mixing the concrete as well as people helping putting in the posts and making sure they are level.
We really need the help and we hope that you can help us out. This garden is for the whole community not just Leeman, but incorporating Green Head, Jurien Bay, Cervantes, Eneabba as well as other people that want to join in and lend a hand and show our community spirit that our towns are so famous for.
Please contact us here.
